I do think that the first step here is just making sure that the standards adequately reflect to size of airline passengers. People in general, even those that aren't obese, are larger than they were in the past. I'm only a little bit overweight, but my shoulders don't really fit in the seat that's provided and there isn't really a decent alternative, assuming there is at all.

Yes, or at least ones that are an appropriate size for adults.

@Dkgow Yes, but I was on a Southwest flight recently where they had basically every seat sold, (I think there was like one free seat available when we left the terminal). So, on a flight like that, you're probably not going to have a choice about sitting between passengers of that size. I do think that the seats need to be built to a reasonable size though, I'm not particularly overweight, but my shoulders alone are wide enough to make it hard to cram into some of the seats on airplanes. I'm not really sure how being wedged between two fatties is even safe in case of crash.

@heistube9556 Probably and as a passenger you have no idea as to why there's one seat available there. It could be too obese passengers, or it could be one passenger that likes an aisle and one that prefers a window seat.
