@WhiteRaven___ He's not too bad, but SNL is a bit of a ringer which is part of why anybody with any other prospects only stays around for a few seasons. There's only been 10 featured cast members on for 10 or more seasons and the next longest length was Darrel Hammond at 14 seasons. I don't have a particular issue with him, but it does seem like he should have moved on years ago if for no other reasons that to let the show grow and evolve.

Since the shows came out on Disney+, I've watched practically all of them, I think I got to somewhere in the last decade before life got in the way. From what I can tell the first 2 or 3 years were garbage, then the show got better and better until round about season 6 or 7, then it dropped a bit but was pretty good until about season 10. It's still a funny enough show, but none of what happened after season 10 is particularly special and I do think that they would have been better off canceling it and giving Groening a contract to do something new as most of the stuff in the last 20 years has been so unnecessary.

SNL is OK, but there have been much better options for the entire time. I don't think a show like this lasts this long through so many changes of cast and writers while being the best. The State, Kids in the Hall, Monty Python, Mad TV and In Living color are IMHO all better shows over all. That being said, SNL isn't a bad show they've had some absolutely hilarious sketches of the decades that are every bit as good, it's just that they've always had more of a commercial sensibility to them and it's part of why none of those other shows lasted anywhere near as long.

@Burner-B I haven't watched in quite a few years, but the clips that I've been seeing the last few years are over all just as funny as anything from previous years. It's just the stuff that pops up in every generation like that stupid The Californians sketches and The Ultimate Cheer that they ought to give up on a lot more quickly. Also, kudos on finally getting rid of Jimmy Fallon, he must have been an incredible writer, because he was an absolutely terrible performer.

@michaelcoburn2975 He was my favorite Weekend Update host with Kevin Nealon being a close second.

@tapchoke2363 They're not my favorites, but they're up there. For me personally Norm MacDonald and Kevin Nealon are more or less the pinacle of that segment. Although the few clips I've seen of Jane Curtain were hilarious as well.

I think part of it was that there was a long time where you couldn't easily see the older episodes as they either weren't available or you had to get specific sets to see the older ones. This video confirms what I've long suspected. SNL goes through phases where it's very funny and ones where it's not. I personally prefer other sketch comedy shows, but I do think that the hate that SNL gets is over the top by quite a bit.
