I don't normally agree with Tucker Carlson, but this was something that I already knew and he did excellent research on the topic. There's few, if any, areas left where women aren't doing better in America than men. You pretty much have to resort to things like death during pregnancy to find numbers where women are significantly worse off than men.

Not that the nobody but Trump voting is any better. Really, people need to start voting for candidates that are actually going to follow through on things that aren't horrible.

The plan is imperfect, but it does address some of those affordability issues by reducing the student loan payments. If I understood correctly, it also does something about the interest payments. When I was paying for my previous degree, the student loan interest was more than what my credit cards were charging and I actually put most of the money on my credit cards because not only was the interest lower, but if something should happen, like disability, I could get that waived in bankruptcy court. Student loans are virtually impossible to get discharged in court.

There's a few reasons. Guaranteed loans, reduced government subsidies and the lack of competition. Much of the spending is on administrative positions that have noting to do with education and on building projects that make the college more competitive in attracting new students, even if it also doesn't do much for the quality of education being provided.

This is being somewhat addressed by this in terms of capping the payments and increasing the amount that's protected. There's also more options being provided for having the loans discharged for public service. But yes, I totally agree. I put pretty much all my tuition and fees on credit cards because the interest was lower and they could be discharged in bankruptcy if something prevented me from working. (I was using introductory offers and balance transfers that were like 3% transfer fee and 0% interest, but the interest rates on the loans were absurd)

The PI is a bit of an idiot. Nobody should be talking to the police in a situation like this without an attorney. Even more so if he's innocent of any wrongdoing. Being innocent isn't a defense against being wrongfully convicted, after all. That being said, the whole thing does look fishy and it wouldn't surprise me if he does know what happened to her and tried to cover it up.

Absolutely and I wonder if he would have received the nomination in 2020 if he hadn't been able to hide in his basement and had had to actually travel around campaigning.

I'm not so sure we can say that we have a democracy at this point. Not after the Brooks Brothers Riot of '00 and the numerous elections since where bad candidate after bad candidate after bad candidate was forced on the people. Voters haven't had so little say in what goes on in decades, if ever.

I was wondering how folks knew that he was appropriating the headdress. Considering the centuries of genocide and purposeful destruction of native culture, I think it's really time that folks that aren't members of these communities start actually listening to what the communities are saying. There's been a bunch of obsession over not using the term "Indian," but very little obsession over the horrible conditions on many reservations.

@jillellis2146 What bigger picture? We didn't fix it years ago, so we can't fix it now? It's also not fair that the pandemic happened and a bunch of people lost their jobs. I was going to be making somewhere in the order of $60k a year as an entry level teacher, and I'm making like half that working at a grocery store. The $3k in student loan foregiveness that I'm getting is still a tiny fraction of how much I lost having to switch degrees to complete on time. Even if I had gotten the full $20k, that's still less than the difference in salary for a year. It's also worth noting that the other changes should make college more affordable for a broader part of the population by doing things like capping the student loan payments and raising the amount of earnings that are protected from the loans. What's more, a bunch of the people who are getting forgiveness didn't graduate college or are doing things like counseling that don't pay well enough to ever compensate for the expense of some of these degrees. That's also not fair. For decades society has been telling kids to go to college to make up for the jobs being shipped overseas while making college more and more expensive. But, we still do need a bunch of jobs that have a need for these expensive degrees, but the actual pay doesn't make up for the expense of college. Sure, there are jobs in the trades that pay well, but there's only so many plumbers and electricians that society can support without literal make work jobs.

@stvo2009 Absolutely, we don't know what, if anything, he knows. It's certainly possible that he murdered her, but it's also possible that he didn't and is afraid of being railroaded in this manner. It also might be that he doesn't know anything that would be helpful and is afraid of being charged for lying if the FBI disagrees about his lack of knowledge. Or possibly something else entirely.

We've had the truth on both for decades. Whether people choose to believe it or not is up to them. But, the CIA definitely did start Bin Laden out in the '80s with training and supplies in Afghanistan, I'm not aware of anybody arguing against that. And, there were definitely planes flown into the buildings that took them down. This is also established as is the engineering failures that led to the buildings collapsing under their own weight when the central columns were heated enough to lose their strength. SImilarly, there is no need for a conspiracy, any time there's a public route like the one that JFK was riding at the time, there is the potential for a sniper to be in one of the windows, it's why the secret service has to do a lot of work securing the rooftops and have their own team looking for snipers in the windows. It's not an easy job. And Jack Ruby was frequently in the police station where he shot Oswald, it wouldn't have been unusual for him to be there, even without the crowds of reporters covering the transfer. It's all less than satisfying, but it distracts from actual conspiracies like the Democrats throwing races to the GOP to avoid having to make decisions that anger the donors.

@jimquantic This just goes to show how good Pelosi has been for the RNC, under her leadership there have been basically no younger polticians developed that have any hope of winning. It's much like HRC bleeding the party dry in her attempt to force herself on a populace that wasn't interested. Honestly, if you can't even win your own party's nomination without cheating, why would you expect the other party's voters to be any more interested?

What gets me is that if the DNC hadn't forced Biden on the voters, Bernie may have won the primary and we wouldn't be in this mess right now. If Biden had actually done things like give everybody health care during the pandemic and fought for hazard pay for essential workers, he might have more support than Trump. Trump for all this flaws did a lot more in terms of checks than Biden did.

@troutman-sw9qc Voting blue all the way is what got us into this mess. The DNC keeps rigging primaries in favor of candidates that nobody wants and once in office they take a hard shift to the right. There is absolutely no pressure on the GOP to try to pursue left wing voters because the Democrats keep pursuing the right wing ones and there aren't let enough lefties to challenge either parties for the Presidency.

The thing is that at this point, even if he does bow out, I'm not sure how the DNC is going to be able to locate and run anybody in his place. They knew 4 years ago that he was slipping, they had to have been aware last year that he wasn't going to be with it enough to continue, they chose to hope he would get reelected and then die in office for the VP to take over.

I think the big issue is that everybody knows that Biden can't win, and certainly can't do the job if he does win. The problem though is that the party leadership has done a crappy job of promoting younger politicians and there really aren't any other options that could win. I think Bernie might be able to win this election, but that's a long shot, and then they'd be in the position in 4 years of needing a new candidate as Bernie definitely can't handle more than that, even 1 term is asking a lot at his age.

That's what I'm wondering. This continued insistence on cramming bad candidates down my throat is a large part of why I don't vote for Democrats. I won't vote Republican either because they keep running bad candidates where I live.

How do you proceed then? Apparently we've decided that you can't prosecute sitting Presidents and the primaries are only a few months away. This whole situation is weird and not one that really fits with the normal way of doing things. And no, the law isn't relevant at this point with how stacked the courts are with incompetent justices that Trump and McConnel got seated. Just look at SCOTUS with a bunch of openly incompetent judges doing things to the country that will take generations to fix, and in some cases may never be fixed due to the courts unwillingness to acknowledge when decisions were wrong.

@charlottehanna790 Honestly, my money is on him leaving her stranded without her phone. Or, she just wandered off without the phone and he was too much of a coward to get help. There's certainly other possibilities, we'll have to wait and see what turns up, but the assumption that he knows much more than that isn't necessarily reality based. It could be as simple as her doing something stupid and him running when he had the chance.

@mritaci15 Possibly, but probably not, there would be footprints leading to the spring and the area around the springs isn't necessarily stable enough to allow for somebody to carry a body to the spring. It's also illegal to leave the path in those areas because people can and do die in the hot springs.

They can't be, because they're even worse. The GOP is why this isn't being paid for by taxing the people and businesses that benefit from having all these college educated workers that struggle to pay their bills.We can't simply do without social workers and the like, just because we don't want to pay for them to get the education. And, that's the implication of the people opposed to reducing the debt. We're coming off of a pandemic where a bunch of people lost their jobs. Hardly anybody got hazard pay, in large part because the Republicans blocked it when it was early enough in the pandemic to really matter, and the Democrats lost their nerve when they picked up those seats. We had trilions for businesses, but this is too much. Not to mention, that a bunch of this money is wiping out the debts of people that didn't complete their degrees for one reason or another. And how many of those that did manage to graduate were working for less than what unemployment was paying due to the unemployment bonuses that were being tossed around. But, somehow this is too much. Puhlease. I didn't personally whine about the tens of thousands of dollars that went out tot he unemployed above and beyond what they were legally entitlted to. I think a little bit of the money coming to me when I couldn't get a job in my field due to the pandemic closures and disurptions isn't unreasonable given how pretty much everybody else got far more.

The thing the Democrats don't understand is that like him or hate him, nobody can claim that there aren't people that are voting for Trump. The same could not be said about HRC or Biden. People were voting for them as a way of voting against Trump and that requires a significant amount of hatred that doesn't translate well into doing things while in office that make the next time easier. Even if Biden weren't infirm, he'd probably still be having issues because of that. He shouldn't have been the nominee and only won because a large number of people would have voted for anybody not named HRC as an alternative to 4 more years of Trump.

@tru3sk1ll I recently saw a black shoplifter in blackface. Blackface is like going around with a toothbrush mustache. It's not itself particularly racist, but good luck doing either of those things without also engaging in racist things as they're incredibly tightly bound together. I do think that as time goes by that people will have stopped doing it long enough that the connection won't be there, but I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon.

Nobody has come up with an explanation that's simpler or with more evidence than that Oswald was working alone and was shot by Ruby also working alone. Efforts to shoehorn in other parties wind up running afoul of what we reliable know and involve ignoring that these are people who had established histories prior to the assassinations. As unsatisfying as it is, sometimes people just get lucky to be in the right place at the right time to put a plan like this into effect.

Yes, the slap in the face here is the failure of the government to do anything real to deal with the cost while giving out tons of free money to the rich and powerful. This executive order does help somewhat with affordability, as do the fixes to the public service waivers, but the real fix here involves legislative action to restrict how much money colleges can spend on things that aren't education related. Particularly with administrative and facilities expenses that aren't related to education. A $100m gym is impressive to look at, but probably not worth $100m if it's not being paid for by an endowment from a philanthropist, when it's paid for via student fees, it just contributes to bloated tuition payments.

The issue there is that the last shoot out between natives and federal law enforcement occured in the '70s, and the conditions on the reservations remains dire in parts of the country.

@ChristianNathanielLaCroix People use the term because they want to demonize mainstream Americans. If mainstream America is doing it it's cultural appropriation and if they're exporting it, then it's cultural imperialism. It's incredibly ignorant as none of the groups that are around today were the originators of the cultural things that they apparently now own,and somehow the Chinese adopting western styles of businessware isn't something that anybody bothers to talk about because it doesn't fit into any of those boxes.
