Yes, although the folks that were injured were likely wearing their seat belts. Being flipped upside like this can cause serious injuries, especially if you've got preexisting injuries to the spine. This is also a good reason as to why babies should not be permitted to ride on the lap of passengers and instead be in proper booster seats.

@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep We know that this was good engineering.

@ This is part of why people aren't supposed to have things out during take off and landing. A book or a cellphone can get launched and smack somebody in the face if something like this happens.

@WinterXR7 Um, yes, they do. Most of the time when planes crash there are few, if any, casualties. It's just that those crashes don't remain in the news as long as the ones that result in large numbers of dead.

Most plane crashes have survivors. It's fairly common for plane crashes these days to be in the single digits for fatalities.

@BlakeAlexander12 So? You're talking about the margin of error at that point and quibbling about whether those folks in that crash in San Francisco years back that were run over by fire trucks count.

@ Yes, it's still better to not have planes crashing, but people forget just how infrequent the crashes are at this point and how few people are killed in typical crashes. It's not God's doing, it's that there were investigations made every time there is a crash or serious incident and changes made to try to see that it doesn't happen again. As a result, plane crashes and the body counts have both gone down substantially.
