  1. Most of these songs are too widely known for a successful cover. I'm not sure they're all that bad, they just either didn't adequately re-interpret the original version or took it in a direction that didn't work. IMHO, the best covers tend to be ones that actually add something rather than being a cynical cash grab. Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is a goo example, it differs almost completely from the original, but does so in a mindful and respectful way that eclipses the original. Same goes for the covers that Nirvana did for their unplugged album. Even The Man Who Sold the World was different enough in a good way that people accepted it.
