  1. This could be really useful for power cycling devices that regularly require it. Set the Pi to cut the power for about 10 seconds and power things back on in the correct order whenever it detects a missing connection to the net.

  2. Interesting. That would be a better design. The US uses a variety of different styles of connector, the type in the video is just the most common one. Most incandescent lights use this style of connector, just in different sizes. Fluorescents and halogens both use different styles of connector. LEDs have a variety of connectors, mostly owing to them often times being bought to replace previously existing bulbs.
