It should have happened ages ago. It's the height of arrogance that their new "budget" softail starts at $13k before taxes when other manufacturers can produce great motorcycles for far less. Same goes for the Livewire, WTF were they thinking pricing that at $30k when you can get great electrics for 2/3 or less. They need to go after new markets as the HD lifestyle is just not attractive to anybody under 50 and even for those of us that do like the leather and cruisers, it's asking a bunch to get us to pay so much for HD when there's Indian and some really amazing Japanese cruisers available.

$600 a year wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but the paychecks people are getting aren't rising anywhere near that. Some people do and some people get promoted. Beyond that though, there's a glut of hogs on the second hand market as their primary market ages out of motorcycling, or dies, and puts the bikes on 2nd hand market.

@Shelby Gene You're one of the rare people who actually has the tools and know how to do that. Most people are not so fortunate. People of your generation are incredibly arrogant about what's realistic for most people. I'm fortunate enough to have access to a machine shop, but most people don't. For them, a bike that's more than 10 years old can be a real challenge to keep running as they have to hope the model was popular enough that some 3rd party is willing to keep producing compatible parts. Even if they are from overseas.

@sepg5084 Not just that, but take a look at craigslist, there are tons of HD motorcycles for sale used and many of them are relatively new in good condition for a fraction of what you'd pay new. I've seen them for as little as a few hundred dollars if I'm wiling to put in some time and effort to refurbish them. In some cases you can even get them for free if you're willing to tow them away and put them back into working order.

I was wondering how long it would take for somebody to point that out.
