@ondreacounts2556 Same for Washington. I remember when the law went into effect and my dad started to use his. It looks like it was passed into law in 1986 and basically folks have to wear seatbelts in any vehicle that came equipped with it from the factory.

Was there ever any evidence that they actually worked though? Because there's little point in forcing students to sit through these sorts of videos if it doesn't impact their ability to drive positively.

@DrunkDoglol Yes, that's a common problem, nobody would be in prison if they expected to get caught and convicted. Similarly, nobody would drink and drive or drive recklessly if they expected to get in a crash.

@th5841 Yes, at most this might temporarily cause new drivers to be a bit more cautious while they're gaining experience, but the movie is a poor substitute for proper driver's ed with more time actually behind the wheel with an instructor.

I don't agree, they used to show these sorts of videos and it didn't really seem to make much of a difference. The main reason that the death rates are lower than the used to be is technology. Things like mandatory seatbelts, collapsing steering wheel columns, crumple zones, ABS, ESC and the like saved far more lives than these videos ever did. And, one of the big reasons for the increase in fatalities is the vehicles that are being driven have larger blindspots and are larger than need be so the folks inside are safer at the expense of everybody else. If we actually cared about safety and reducing traffic fatalities we wouldn't be using unproven scare videos, we would be extending driver's education and requiring more time driving around with an instructor during a mandatory and heavily subsidized course.
