Hypocrisy is definitely the word here. They definitely could ban sssniperwolf if they wanted to, they just didn't want to. Although it seems to be a bit of a moot point now as I think she's left. Which is probably just as well as she doesn't seem to be the brains of those channels and her reactions had been getting lazier and lazier.

@timramich You're rather slow, aren't you. The DMCA is a thing that prevents circumvention of DRM, DRM is increasingly being used in things like tractors where it has no right to be. You've got cell phone companies like AT&T forcing updates onto devices that they don't themselves even own. And most of the stuff you're saying is absolute BS, please do some research or at least quit working for one of the companies that's doing this, because either way you're not doing your position any favors by posting this ignorance.

@timramich You might want to read Adam Smith, the father of capitalism, if you think that. In the absence of regulations to prevent it, every economy will always become a single source monopoly over everything. The only thing that prevents that is government intervention. Just look at how consolidated the US economy has become when people like you started to oppose regulations. There used to be so many more options when I was a kid, just before that BS started. Now, we have the appearance of choice, but the money mostly goes to the same small number of companies.

Considering all the antitrust talk lately, this seems like a poor time to try to squash a competitor rather than try to find a deal to just serve ads on the videos that are being shown through that app. I mean the main purpose to the app is to allow people to follow the creators not to skip the ads. (Although if one of the options is ad-free, it probably would kill views on ad supported sites)

@zealoustherealous I hadn't heard about gray jay, but I'll be looking at it more closely and likely using it.

@taylorhickman84 YT already kind of does that with the demonetization and screwing with the algorithm to make sure that only Mr. Beast and a handful of super "popular" creators get prioritized over the folks that we might actually want to see. For a significant portion of the YT creators, they either get no money at all, or they get very little. Whether or not we see the ads makes little difference to them. It mostly matters to YouTube. In fact, YT won't even allow you to use that special thanks button for creators that aren't monetized and there are a number of reasons why they can't be monetized including not having enough subscribers. But, even without many subscribers somebody may have a video that somebody appreciates enough to give some money to, but historically couldn't unless the creator put up a 3rd party payment link. Plus, the amount of money that creators make from an individual ad is pretty small and if the ad revenue loss due to this becomes big, there's other ways of making money on the site that don't involve YT ads.
