You do realize that a fiat currency is the only kind that would have scaled as the US economy grew over the years since, right? You can't dig up gold indefinitely just because the economy grew. What's more, gold is nearly completely worthless in cases where the economy collapses. Things like medical supplies and ammo are far more likely to be in demand than gold. At best, gold is a marker of status and a way of temporarily storing value. It's certainly not a practical means of trade in the modern era where we have other options.

@tonykerr8147 Citation needed. It wasn't anywhere near enough to solve the problem, but if you think that it hurt more people than it helped, you're completely full of it. The previous system was collapsing, Obamacare extended the period with health insurance companies a few years, but inevitably, we'll be moving to something where everybody is guaranteed health care services without having to pay at point of contact. People that claim that Obamacare sucks, mostly had garbage insurance, but were very lucky in terms of not getting sick.

@2ticketsoneadventure Or he didn't have anything sturdy to tie off to at home. I had a cousin that they found hanging on some playground equipment. It would be easy to tear into that about the reason he chose that place, but realistically, it was probably just a place where he knew there was a bar that would support his weight long enough to do the job. People like to overthink suicide and the reality is that it's just suicide. Sometimes there's not much to it other than a temporary belief that nothing is ever going to get better and the current state of affairs is worse than death. It's why netting and suicide prevention phones on bridges tend to reduce suicide rates. In many cases any little thing that interrupts the plan can be enough to stop it for good.

Maybe or maybe they just genuinely believe that Black people don't hang themselves due to the symbolism of it. Either way, people grieving aren't known for being hyper-rational. Some are, but not everybody is, some get downright irrational when they hurt like that.

It's not an easy position for the police to be in when there's a Black man that's found hanging. There's a lot of folks out there that just assume that no Black man would hang himself due to the history of "strange fruit" in some parts of the country. But, it does happen, some Black people do hang themselves and it just means that there was a suicide. Beyond that, it doesn't mean much. That being said, after the rest of the results are available, it will likely to found to be a suicide by hanging as presumably there weren't a lot of signs around the death scene to lead to questions about what actually happened..

Could we please stop saying that this is a $2.2bn package? It's closer to $7tn when you consider the leverage effect that the federal reserve is going to apply to those corporate payouts.

Not to mention that corrupt McConnel and the entire corporate wing of the party. Sadly, it won't happen as the wishes of the voters are not even relevant to either party.

I'd love to see him try. The company has been circling the drain thanks to his incompetence for years. I'm genuinely curious as to where he's going to find the money to move the manufacturing when they don't even have the funds to properly expand where they are.

There's nothing at all shady about it, this is more or less standard practice. They don't normally wait until the toxicology and autopsy results are in when they issue a preliminary finding. The alternative would have been to say nothing and deal with the complaints that the police weren't addressing the death.
3
It's a matter of routine. Toxicology reports can takes weeks and in many cases, an autopsy is never completed due to it being irrelevant to the process. Presumably, the medical examiner was able to determine that the bones were broken that are relevant to death by hanging and that there aren't other suspicious broken bones or defensive wounds either. Which would lead to a preliminary finding of suicide, even though there's more testing that is coming.

I'm Joe Biden and if you think my mental capacity has declined, you can vote for the other Biden.

@guptadagger896 Not to mention, that when gold has been used in that sense, it requires the government to set a price for it and restrict access to it at which point, it's barely better than a fiat currency in that regard.

Logic 46 They do, but Americans shoot more Americans in general than you see in other developed countries. If the police weren't also doing so, it would be kind of weird. We have a system where we've failed miserably to regulate the availability of firearms to those who aren't able to use them responsibly. Whether it's criminals or just individuals that are to F-ing stupid to secure them well enough that their kids don't get their hands on them, there are tons of deaths that only happen because of our national fetish for firearms.

@Rexxxxxxxxxxxxxx They're absolutely not opinion based narratives. From an objective standpoint, the lane closure had no legitimate reason attached to it. Regardless of the motivation, it was a misuse of taxpayer resources. The fact that they had ill intent just makes it worse. I'm not surprised that the court overturned the conviction, the courts in general have been looking the other way when it comes to political and white collar criminal activities for ages now.

Or, just letting us have our votes count for something. If he really wanted to show his appreciation, he could have dropped out when it became obvious that he was only winning due to election fraud and just let Bernie have the nomination that he's earned. Or, really, even just no longer laughing about people's problems would be an improvement.

I think the issue is that it was hanging outside from a tree limb. For some Black people, the notion that a Black person would do that is impossible due to the "strange fruit" symbolism of it. Realistically, there's nothing stopping a Black person from hanging themselves anymore than a White or Latino person. People who follow through on suicide are not in a place where they're thinking a lot about how other people will view the act, at least not in a rational way.

@joshyaash One of the big problems with the whole #BLM thing is that policy proposals don't make for snappy hashtags. One of the things that the civil rights movements of the past did so much more effectively was communicate to media outlets that were willing to cover them what the issues were, what the demands were and how the two related.

To be fair, out of the hundred takes they did, this was probably the longest one that left even the slightest question about whether or not he's senile.

Not to mention the huge sum of money that they're just giving to corporations. For any that don't have stocks, they're getting precisely nothing out of it.

Pizza delivery is probably the least risky way of getting fed right now. And that's for both the customer and the employee. Some of the chains are experimenting with zero contact deliveries.

If the Democrats go their $13 an hour raise propsal through, that would more less solve that. But the extra $600 a week alone is nearly as much money as I make and that's before the other bits of the pay. You'll notice that the Democrats are hardly chomping at the bit to address it because so many of us are making minimum wage or close to it. The DNC doesn't care about us, they care more about the employers and donors.
1
Yes, they needed somebody that wouldn't do crap for the workers and could rake in the campaign donations. At no point was governance on the list of things they cared about. Surprisingly, obvious senility seems to be a non-issue for them.

I don't want credit for keeping him from being lost, because we've clearly screwed up.
