@wowwhyisthistaken There's been no surge in ADDers, it's purely a matter of diagnoses being handed out. Up until relatively recently both OCD and ASD were disqualifiers for ADHD. Meaning that if you had OCD, you couldn't receiv and ADHD diagnosis at all, even if it was clearly there. There's also been a lot of inattentive ADHD that was never diagnosed due to it just not being enough of a problem for other people to justify the process being started on our behalf.

From what I understand, handedness is only about 25% genetic, so there probably was some actual increase in the number of left handed people as the result of seeing more left handed people, but the bulk of them were probably always left handed.

It depends on the diagnosis. It's a recent phenomenon for medical researchers to acknowledge that medical conditions can look very different between men and women. It does cut both ways as depression in men doesn't look like it does in women in many cases. It's a part of why mass shooters are more often men than women. Men are more likely to get angry when depressed than women are.

Possibly, although the schools are set up more for girls than for boys, which is part of why boys are identified more often. The sorts of things like gym that allow the extra tension to burn off have been shrinking over that same interval that the diagnoses started to markedly increase.

The criteria and awareness are my personal suspicion. I got an OCD diagnoses over a decade before I got an ADHD one. And I got my ADHD diagnosis something like 17 years and counting before the ASD one. And I purely missed out on, what was at the time, an Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis because of my ADHD and schizoaffective diagnoses. From what I understand now, those diagnoses wouldn't block diagnosis, but in 2009 or so when I got the neuropsych done it wasn't allowed to have that combination of disorders at once.
