TBH, I don't think that's good advice. I bought a Synology NAS, a DS220J and it's basically useless. It's so underpowered that just logging in results in the software timing out if 2FA is involved and it barely keeps up with normal transfers rates over the network. I certainly wouldn't recommend buying a NAS from a company that would sell ones that are more or less completely useless.

That's kind of ridiculous. People can break the DRM on the books and there are publishers that don't use DRM at all. It is certainly something to keep in mind when buying ebooks, but the concerns there weren't particularly warranted.

@BriBCG Because they're absolute crap that's worse than nothing in a fairly literal way. The one I have is so underpowered that even just logging in with 2FA enabled takes a half hour to try until it doesn't timeout midway.

I'm not surprised. I bought one of their entry level NAS last year and it's borderline unusable for really anything. Even just logging in is apparently too much strain to handle and it times out multiple times before it actually allows me in. I'm lucky if I can run more than one of the included apps at one time and I don't think that it was particularly advertised accurately that it was worse than a much cheaper Raspberry Pi.

@acmhfmggru They sell ones that are absolutely unusable. The fact that some of them are so incredibly underpowered that they won't even run the core functions without issues says something about their customer care.

@lka1988 There's also 3rd party software that can break the DRM as well as stores like Smashwords that don't include any DRM to begin with.
