  1. TBH, I don't understand why these tables weren't set to readonly for a period right before deletion. There may have been a few users that weren't writing to their data, but it would have resulted in error messages that would have forced people to investigate while the data was still there to migrate.

  2.  @tumpech  If it didn't occur to them it's because they were half-assing the planning. With something like this there should have been somebody that was thinking about the worst case scenario. And this is a completely expected situation where some people don't get or respond to the email for one reason or another.

  3. They should, but even with regular database backups, there's going to be some data lost that may not be replaceable. And it doesn't get them off the hook for handling it so poorly. Even with backups, it's not always easy to restore them on a moment's notice.

  4. And that's far easier to do now than anytime in the past. Between OpenDNS and NAS software that can allow you to VPN directly into the NAS, it doesn't require much sophistication to get working properly.
