@raapyna8544 One of the dumbest things that psychiatrists did was conflate the inability to enjoy things with the inability to seek things out that are enjoyable. Those are two different circuits and two different solutions. In the latter case, if you've got somebody that can drag you out of bed, you can still enjoy whatever it is that you used to enjoy, but with dysthymia, you won't enjoy it even if you do, do it.

They're not really intended to be a fix to anything. They're intended to be enough of a boost that other, more effective, treatments can be used. This is especially true for psychotic disorders where it can be hard just to communicate with a patient. In terms of drepression, the only time where antidepressants could be considered effectively mandatory, is in a patient that's so depressed that they don't try anything at all ti improve the situation. Suicidality is kind of a different thing, it's complicated and there is an uptick in the short term when patients go on antidepressants as they may have been too depressed to even try, but now they've got a bit more energy.

You're not really supposed to be taking medications for depression for that long. Especially not if you're that young when you start. Antidepressants are meant to be used temporarily while you work through the issues using therapy. I'm sure there are a few people for whom therapy doesn't work, but that's not the norm.

The prescription isn't that much of an issue, it's when they're prescribed without therapy that it's a particular problem. Antidepressants do not address the underlying issues.

About a third of people with ADHD also have OCD for reasons that aren't entirely clear. It's common for the dual-diagnosis to be missed because the conditions are more or less polar opposites of each other.

@marshallsweatherhiking1820 It makes a massive difference in terms of treatment whether it's this circuit or that circuit in the brain as they run on different specific bits. Enjoying it once you're doing it is just fundamentally a different problem from being unable to enjoy things that you are doing.

Honestly, there's a lot of them, it's usually not the case where none of them work. But, that being said, as long as somebody isn't so depressed that they won't try any of the known functional treatments, they aren't necessarily that important. There's a lot of therapies that have scientific backing that don't really require medication.

@Repetoire I'd take what you've read with a grain of salt. There are massive restrictions in place on what you're allowed to do in terms of testing on children.
