The US is so great that we can just choose not to help people like that kid so that the rich can get richer.

@B_Bodziak Which kind of amazes me, given how I have never heard anybody that actually liked the VA. It's always been massively underfunded for the promises that were made to vets. It's even worse when you consider that some illnesses and health problems are far more common in veterans and as such, it does make some sense to try and consolidate them with doctors that have experience looking out for things that are more common in that community than the population at large.

They mentioned on Breaking Points that the deductibles have gotten really far out of hand, sometimes in excess of $10k after paying hundreds of dollars of premiums to get what is essentially a catastrophic care plan and some routine care. I'm not sure what the point of having a plan is where nobody is able to actually afford to use it. at $15k, I wouldn't have even gotten out of that deductible that time that I spent 4 days in the ICU following a heat stroke.

I personally, like the idea of lowering the medicare age every couple years by 5 or so years and banning companies from taking profit at multiple levels of the health care system, especially insurance companies that are limited in how much they're allowed to spend on non-health care activities as a percentage of the money being collected. Lowering the age relatively gradually both allows the system to expand to make sure that there's adequate ability to provide services and should help to reduce the expense of providing insurance for those that aren't yet covered as the most expensive people to cover tend to either have congenital health problems or are towards the older end of the pool.

And after 5, there are presumably policies in place to ensure that they can all get treatment when appropriate.

The elites crush any effort to fix the system. We had a chance with Obama, but he screwed it up by not whipping the votes for at least a public option.
