He's the only passenger I feel any sort of sorrow over. They mostly got their money engaged in morally questionable conduct and then used it to buy cut rate tickets to the bottom of the ocean.

@rickm6076 Yep, I was hoping that they would be rescued so that they could be made to pay for the consequences with money. This whole rescue effort was an obscene waste of money to rescue people who got their money by being cheap and exploiting the labor of others. I do feel sorry for the young man that went with his father, I was that age when my dad brought me up one of the local mountains with a guide. We had a top-notch guide and while we were in white-out conditions near the top, it was still a much, much safer thing to do as our guide had been leading climbers for decades and there are far more options for a mountain top rescue than from the bottom of the ocean. That money could have saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives of poor people, but got wasted saving the lives of a few people who were clearly in over their heads.

Quite possibly, but given how macguyvered together the vessel was, it's entirely possible that the communications system and emergency beacons could have failed and the sub had been stuck on something at depth. But yes, with something going that deep and suddenly losing all communications, the likelihood of being able to mount a rescue before the resources ran out was always a very long shot. There just aren't that many vessels in the world that can do it. None of them were on site.

You do know that that's how people become billionaires, right? They wouldn't have been able to amass that sort of wealth without being extremely cheap.

@mist2961 He was 19 years old and had a rather large reason to not be too strong-willed with his father. At age 19, he probably hadn't gotten to have much of a life. Granted, his father was a billionaire, so he probably had a pretty decent 19 years, but there's really only so much life you can live in such short of a life.
