  1. +howard baxter, that's completely consistent. Infinity isn't a number and as such it's not automatically going to follow the normal rules. And, as you point out, it doesn't follow the usual rules. It depends entirely on how you got that infinity what you get. You can't really treat infinity like it's a number and because of that you've got all sorts of rules about how to deal with it. infinity + infinity is just fine, but infinity times infinity, infinity - infinity and infinity divided by infinity don't work out in an intuitively obvious way because it's a concept and not a specific number.
