That's what people should recognize. None of these things individually got us into this mess, fixing any one of them isn't going to get us out of this mess. Cutting back on meat if you're eating a lot is probably a wise move from both a health and environmental standpoint. If you've got the money, you can go the extra mile of buying from sources that are more responsible in how they raise and butcher the meat. We can definitely solve climate change and still eat meat, we just need to eat a bit less and ensure that it's being raised in ways that keep the emissions and resources used to reasonable levels. It's mostly other things that caused the problems anyways.

@DanSpotYT That sounds about right. I can't share proprietary data, but every time I get an update, it's a few departments bringing in all the money. But, if we cut the nonprofitable areas of the store, you wouldn't get people coming into the store at all. It's like air conditioning. It is a cost, but these days if you haven't got it, then people are not going to do any shopping at your store, so stores pay for it anyways.

@TomFewchuk Hard to say, but given that you lose roughly 90% of the energy every time you jump up a level on the food chain, it's likely that there would be somewhat of a reduction. But, if we could just stop wasting so much food, we'd likely get a substantial chunk of that without cutting back on the actual consumption.

The Chinese used to have a system where whatever food wasn't eaten during the meal would be tossed into a slop bucket to feed to the pigs. Then later the pigs would be slaughtered and eaten and the process would continue. Really, those kinds of cultural practices would help a great deal. And because of the emissions from composting, if you trap the gas coming off of that, it can be burned in gas powered power plants. Those plants are incredibly efficient once the gas has been obtained, and if the source is from recent vegetation, it's produces very little additional CO2 beyond what had been in the atmosphere..

@legendareNz That's what I'd expect. Unless everything is coming in on the same day and has an expiration day that's a multiple of weeks, you wouldn't have everything expiring on the same day, that would be wasteful. That being said, there usually is a day of the week where more of that is happening, usually based on whatever day the new prices start.
