  2. Not to mention that only the largest of libraries would have that many books that aren't subdivided by categories along the lines of the Dewey Decimal system or Library of Congress. Normally, you'd partition them based on that first, then you'd just take the much smaller stacks of books and shelve them where they go one at a time. It's much faster for retrieval and storage.

  3. The quickest way is the lucky sort, just throw them all from the top of the stairs and just select the few dozen near the top that are closed. I mean, after all, you wouldn't want to shelve unlucky books, would you?
