As much as I like being alone, it kills the ability to get feedback and develop a network of like-minded individuals that can lead to reduced output.

I'm in that boat, even working at a college, I rarely meet people that are smarter than I am. Which makes me appreciate people that can call me out when I make a mistake all the more. Somebody is going to be at the top, once you get anywhere near the top couple percent, you're just not going to find many rooms where you're not the smartest. The key is to ignore intelligence and find people that are good at spotting the flaws in your reasoning and/or asking questions. Even a dimwitted toddler can give us some rather humbling questions. The one issue I do have with Entrepreneurs in Cars is that being the smartest in the room doesn't get you off the hook for networking and socializing. If you occasionally take a day or two to read books that's not necessarily an issue, but for the truly elite, it can be months or even years between situations where you're meeting people that would be at the appropriate level and I don't think that not spending anybody is a reasonable response. As much as I'd like to have a reasonable excuse to not spend time with people, it's just not a reasonable response.

That's the frustrating thing IMHO. The smarter you are, the harder it is to find a room where you're not the smartest person in the room. I'm always looking for people that are smarter than I am, but I rarely do. And too many people confuse having money and resources with being smart. The two are not the same thing. There's a level of financial attainment that's really necessary, but beyond that, more money doesn't really mean much. I look forward to having people call me out for making mistakes, because I'd much rather know about it then than several months or years later when the results aren't what I'm looking for.
