  1. In 35 American states, ambulance services isn't even considered to be an essential service. When I had to be taken to the ICU, the ambulance ride was roughly $800 IIRC, but I only had to pay 20% for the ride after insurance covered the bulk of it. Then again, we've also got ER medics that ride around town to stabilize patients for transport, so we're a but ahead of the curve for emergency services compared to the rest of the U.S.
