Having spent a couple years living over there, this is a pretty substantial challenge of the cultural norms. Chinese people have their own personal beliefs and preferences, but it can be hard to hear about any of that unless you're a close friend. Part of it is probably the current regime, but a lot of that was the case well before the CCP took power. It's a culture that values face and tends to avoid conflict.

Not really, every implementation of "communism" has had that going on where the people running things and their friends get most things, and most others get screwed.

@lemiphil2388 Yep, while there are somewhere around 40 or 50 ethnic groups in China, the Han are the largest at roughly 90% of the entire population. That presumably has been changing as during the period where there were restrictions on having children, the other ethnic groups had looser restrictions and could pretty much always have more than one child.,

@PascalD87 Yep, it's a bit of fun, self-expression and waiting for the time for the uprising. It is a bit of a rejection of the overly sanitized, but I haven't ever noticed punks being less clean than anybody else.
