Yes, although keep in mind that the policy could always return, they'll just wait until they think the coast is clear.
302
That's probably the main reason, but there have also been instances of voter intimidation by strangers.
85
Did he actually pay for any of it though? You can't be refunded for expenses you didn't pay.
60
Medicare for all was rather popular when Bernie was running on it.
48
Yep, it's really, really hard to find too much fault when the system has failed so miserably to address the needs of the people.
43
I kind of feel like he would have known that going on. Violent J has been giving interviews and performing for decades.
43
TBH, his policies seem better than most options we're allowed.
28
@lorenzoblum868 Yes, we learned that pretty definitively with the OJ Simpson trial.
23
It will be disastrous for him not to bow out of the race.
16
They're the two that the parties are allowing. Trump has the advantage of having people actually wanting him to be President. Biden was rammed down our throat by threatening another 4 years of Trump as if there weren't other candidates that could beat Trump. But now, 4 years later, we're in this position of being expected to toe the line because they won't allow other options. With how old Biden is this always should have been a contested primary.
13
Same here, although at this point with only 2 parties that are colluding with each other to help the billionaire class, it's harder and harder to imagine that actually voting will ever have the kind of impact that this assassination has. Just look at the other health insurance companies rethinking their plans as a result.
12
@cgungryfcdjs1352 I fail to see how that's any worse than the current situation where the majority of Americans don't have a meaningful say in the Presidential race unless there's a massive swing against the party that normally wins.
12
They'll just give themselves hazard pay and bump up the security detail because it's more money than giving in.
12
@shipwreck8847 We'll see. I don't support jury nullification, but New Yorkers can be rather tough at times in terms of refusing to convict people if they don't want to.
11
Don't worry, we've thought of that, we just need to hand out more guns to the children in case that teacher flips out. Problem solved forever.
10
I like how they wen that direction rather than making him Indian Buddha.

@jv-lk7bc It's happened a lot in US history, the most commonly recognized would be the various tribes and Japanese, but the Germans and Italians as well were notable cases. And, there's a bunch of other groups that were ethnically cleansed by the US, those were just the ones that were thrown into camps on purpose. The Chinese weren't purposefully thrown into camps as I recall, but did wind up in the US concentration camps during WWII and were subjected to significant race rioting in the latter half of the 19th century. That's not even remotely an exhaustive lists, just some of the more clear cut cases. And it doesn't even count the various Africans that were separated from their cultures to the greatest extent possible to try to prevent them from having dangerous ideas like that being property is wrong. Part of the American experience of coming to the US is being stripped of your culture. It's a much more recent thing where people are allowed to demand that they be allowed to keep their cultures.
9
It's not the media, it's the party and the donors. The media is just picking up on their messaging because they like ad revenue.
9
@USUG0 The Senate being like that isn't a particular issue with the House being proportional, especially if the Presidency can go back to being something where the winner of the popular vote generally wins the Presidency. The discrepancy in the Senate isn't enough to do the sort of damage that the EC has on the country.
7
No, but his money does and until money is removed from politics his views will matter a lot. If Biden has lost the support of the donors and he doesn't have the support of the voters, I don't know how the DNC thinks that he'll be able to win in November. The previous 2 cycles the only thing the DNC cared about was electability, but now it's magically not on the list of concerns.
7
Perhaps, but if the Democrats don't get Biden off the ticket and replaced with somebody that's not senile, then we're going to get 4 more years of Trump.
6
@BradyHansen81 Those are the most populace states. There are more people there, so they should get more of a say in the result. We've still got the Senate where the smaller states get an outsized say in what happens in terms of legislation being enacted into law. Plus, there's no guarantee that enough voters in CA, TX and NY will vote the same way to dictate the outcome. TX is probably going to vote the opposite way for the foreseeable future.
6
@BradyHansen81 You've got that backwards. The EC makes most states including CA count as much as RI. Voting in WA, my vote has never counted for the Presidency, it doesn't matter whether I vote Democrat, GOP or for Mickey Mouse, the vote doesn't have any hope of changing the outcome. And IIRC until 2000, the results even started rolling in before our polls had even closed.
6
@zvmZvm0102 The demand that causes people to open businesses won't go away. Nor will the prices that people are willing to pay. There will be new businesses that open up to meet the demand, the difference is that people will know how much they're going to be expected to pa ahead of time.
6
Because he's been winning his primaries.
6
@super-kami-guru The problem there is that people in disaster areas are losers and he likes winners. Perhaps they should have raked the sea and it wouldn't have washed up on shore like that.
5
TBH, I'm not personally convinced that it won't work.
5
To be fair, isn't that like half of the ones that already exist in the US South?
5
@cgungryfcdjs1352 Are you a bot? Stop posting this nonsense if you're not going to adequately explain your point and justify it.
5
@mikederucki Joe Machin is an Independent now from what I can tell along with Sinema. And they're both some of the worst that the Democratic party had.
5
What did you expect? The DNC has stopped listening to primary voters when choosing the candidate and absolutely refuses to adopt popular stances on issues.
5
@Glomly Bernie would have fought to get us medicare for all. Medicare isn't perfect, but it's far, far better than what's available on the private market.
5
@maeschder I've spent years at college as a student and employee, I can assure you that it is in fact very real. At this point, every possible sociodemographic group other than straight white-men have an affinity group on campus to avoid having to come into contact with dangerous ideas and whereas everybody gets asked for pronouns, in spite of most people not being trans or gender non-binary and the best interests of those that are and are claoseted, there's shockingly little recognition of things like the Germans-Americans, Italian-Americans, Chinese-Americans and other non-Japanese-Americans that the US held in concentration camps during WWII.
5
It's worth noting that you have to be making a fair amount of money in order to be subject to other federal taxes.
4
@LRM5195 You're not supposed to pay attention to things when people are blaming things on sexism. Just like we're not supposed to pay attention to all the sexist things that HRC said when running for President and we're supposed to forget that they had to rig the primaries in order for her to even be the nominee.
4
Or, perhaps the campaigns should be considering why there are so many eligible voters that haven't already committed to their side.
4
@romulus463 They can't, the states get to decide how they apportion the votes to electors. it's how ME and NE get to split theirs when everybody else is going all in for one candidate or the other.
4
@DreadX10 That doesn't much matter. It's how they feel that does matter, and why would they come over to your side if you're insulting them?
4
@strawdemindset Red flag laws to prevent individuals under court or hospital supervision from buying them. Restricting the number of rounds that can go into the gun at a given time would help, recognizing that some firearms have no legitimate purpose outside military use and not letting civilians buy any version of them, closing the gun show background check loopholes and require background checks for any transfer of ownership or possession of firearms. Arguably excluding cases where it's just a couple of people temporarily swapping guns at a range, if it's just for a few minutes of use. Any of that would help, it's not an unsolvable problem other than the lack of political will, even a mass shooting targeting congress didn't seem to impress upon them how much of a problem that we've got.
4
@mayrnibird9224 I don't think that pointing out that the Israeli government can reasonably be grouped with the Italian Fascists, Nazis and Apartheid South Africans is anti-Semitic. Perhaps if they didn't go around murdering civilians they wouldn't be so hated.
4
@zoe6723 Precisely, I think the only time that my vote has ever actually mattered was in 2012 when I voted from overseas. I shouldn't have to move, establish residency and figure out how to register to vote in order to have my vote matter.
4
Now, if only they'd show a similar level of enthusiasm for actually doing the will of the people and addressing the needs of the constituents.
4
TBH, I recently saw one up close and it's even uglier in person than in the promotional materials.
4
According to Biden there are probably 50 Democrats that could beat Trump. So, how about we whittle the list down to anybody that's not senile and is able to promise voters things that they want in exchange for votes. And then actually try their best to deliver.
4
She's great, but they have a particularly strong line up this season.
3
Maybe, or perhaps some of them are going to vote for one of the other candidates. I have a total of 10 possible choices of Presidential candidates this year. Saying anything other than Kamala means that I'd likely be insulted. I'm not sure how many options other voters have in other states, but it's not just the 2.
3
@Gh44HZ Precisely, and if all the parties that are available aren't going to vote for laws to reduce those corporate profits, how do you fix it by voting?
3
You should listen to him because he has access to the donors that actually pay for these elections.
3
It's also completely on brand.
3
"Unlucky" isn't that what the mob says right after your bar mysteriously burns down after you declined to pay the protection money?
