But those germans and austrians were soldiers in the famous French Foreign Legion, long before the war came, so, they were soldiers of the Franch Army, not of the German Army, nothing strange in this situation. Some geman "légionnaires" enlisted in the 13th DBLE, even fought against the german Afrika-Korps at Bir-Hakeim, Libya, in june 1942. Dont forget the French Foreign legion's motto, in latin,: "Legio, patria nostra".
