4:27 "Arabicadabra!" Now that's the subtle and not even acknowledged puns I like to see from this channel

I literally just discovered this channel, and I love it. What's that? "You're just commenting for engagement?" No, I don't know what you're talking about.

@fwir711u2 If these extremely good and well researched arguments in this video didn't convince you because the video is "cheap", you have bigger issues.

You know, as someone who lives in Massachusetts quite near Boston, I never questioned the safety of "throw the knives at the wall." I'll be much more careful now, thanks Alec!

I was actually really sad when I moved into my current apartment and couldn't find any switched outlets. I really like switched outlets, and not even just for lamps, but for anything that I want to turn on and off frequently

I live in Plano, TX, and yeah, that extreme winter week we had was pretty rough. I am so extremely grateful that I never lost electricity or water, and being from the north originally, I love the cold and kept my heat at around 65 F and was enjoying the snow. But, for a huge number of people, it was really, really bad. If only any leadership here at all would have admitted this was possible decades ago.

Wearing the "you had me at garum" shirt at this very moment.

@liryan for the record: there isn't a reference, it's something he completely made up and I'm playing along lmao

Couldn't any three equally-spaced hues on the circle be used as "primary" colors? It's only by convention that any three are picked over any other.

@LeoInterVir interesting which government you say is the source of the failure. I don't want to get into a long winded argument, but let's just say that it was shown that frozen renewable sources were a fraction of the problem, and that all kinds of generation were severely impacted. Literally the only thing in that entire wall of text I agree with is that fearmongering is an issue here, but not because of the very real and obvious threat of climate change that really only the US and a few other countries refuse to believe, but because nuclear power should be more widely adopted.

Ah, of course, I knew something felt off about this video.

I am watching this video 27 minutes after it was published. The vintaglo website is already out of stock of the colored lights. Damn it.

@somefreshbread and this one is all combinations of those things, which is crazy

Initially I was extremely confused how people could possibly wonder "how do americans make their coffee then?!" ...we have things for that? But then it hit me that in a world dominated by electric kettles pourover filters are probably the easiest and cheapest way by far to make coffee. At least, as long as you're wrong and they don't all drink instant coffee. That is a truly horrific thought.
2
@matttzzz2 you seem to have missed the entire purpose of both videos.
2
How dare you withhold a bad joke about audio drivers from us! You better not do that again mister >:(
2
I love this setup, and think it's really, really cool. I want to set one up of my own, but... I really don't have any good reason to, so I won't. But dang, the INSTANT I ever have a hint of needing backup power like this, this video will definitely spring into my mind.
2
@jfmc2581 no, actually you don't, because efficiencies over 1 is literally how they work. It violates no laws of thermodynamics. It couldn't be used to create infinite energy like you're suggesting because it has to take the heat FROM somewhere and move it somewhere else. So wherever that somewhere is would eventually run out of heat. Don't try to invoke laws of physics if you've only had a high school science/physics education.
2
Oh thank god, it's been so long since you explained the refrigeration cycle, I was starting to worry about your health.
2
I genuinely had to pause for a full minute because I couldn't stop laughing at the "of in the cold food" reference

I love how the more people are like "pssh, low effort, this is still too good for low effort" the more angry he gets

I haven't watched this video yet, only seen the title: but please, Alec, please, after the Sunbeam I don't think I can take this again T-T

The triumphant return of the magic of buying two of them!

7:15: "To fix this in post, we're gonna just smash cut into muzak and a screenshot of this tweet" Fucking beautiful

You really did get me with the latent heat thing. For a second I thought these were powered by a heat difference engine or something.

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that using an accelerometer for the brake lights is "overthinking it". I think it's actually perfect. Yes there's the fully-stopped problem, but then with an accelerometer and speed reading, all you need is: [ if (above negative-g threshold OR speed is zero OR brake pedal is pressed any amount): turn on brake lights ] This covers every current slowing system, and is forward compatible to every possible slowing system that could ever exist (I think), including some kind of catastrophic malfunction. To me, that seems like the perfect amount of thinking, especially because using the accelerator pedal whenever it requests braking means the software needs to recognize when that is happening (which, to be fair, it must already do to make the regen braking work at all, but the systems might not be communicating enough for that) which might be more complicated.

After watching this video probably 5 times I finally broke down and just ordered one of the goddamn things from Ebay. You caused the price of these things to skyrocket, you beautiful bastard!

That secret fourth one is really strange. It almost feels as if it was... covered up? But why the hell would they scrub information of them working with Disney? My immediate thought is just that, for some reason, the US government thought it would just be bad PR to work with Disney?

I agree, and this is exactly the same issue I have with AI text generation being used for so much. Although there are also many other concerns with that.

god I love No Effort November

5:39 How dare you do this

Update: Now they are also out of stock of the white lights. 4 minutes later.
