  1. The Iowa class sometimes accuracy issues are definitely charges. A friend's dad who was on the New Jersey during Vietnam said that they had accuracy issues at first, the Navy called up a salty old WWII and Korea vet Master Chief Petty officer from the reserves into service to sort out the issues. He asked if they where using the powder scales to actually weigh thier powder charges, and of course they hadn't been. Apparently you need to actually weigh the powder charges and not trust the beurea of ordnance's markings.

  3. A bit of a butterfly if it Phillipenes waited until December, in late November the group that had earlier been doing Dragoon in France came to the Pacific. So there was quite a few cruisers and several more old battleships that would have been available if they had waited and possibly had battleship forces in both locations. Iirc the dragoon force was the New Yorks, Arkansas,Nevada, and one of the new Mexicos.
