  1. I provided handheld radios, mainly the Maxon brand with keypad to customers to operate on my radiotelephone system on the island of Naui, Molokai and Lanai, in Hawaii. The volcano was Haleakala and sat at 10,000 feet, but many repeaters were between 5000 to 7000 feet. I used a UHF 460 megahertz range handheld at the high altitude and actually had problems with interference from taxi cab companies using hand held and mobiles in Oahu, over 100 miles away. At one point a pineapple company was using the 40 megahertz range and had interferece from Alaska.
