I dont mind paying for the parts and labor that it takes to build a car. I also understand that the car manufacturers need to make a orofit that they can put into R&D for the future and sticking around to support the cars.
Unfortunately, there are so many levels of people in between that as soon as you buy one, lose the value that happens initially and then all the 10 and 15% cuts that go to wholesalers, retailers, car salesman and used car salesman that we are basically giving money away.
I do a lot of my own work, which gives me confidence that I'm not over paying for parts and labor, but a new car has so many restrictions about how its maintained and services, that the warranty can be jeopardized if we dont pay $700 for an oil change and service that is required at the dealership.
When I look at the price of the car payment, interest and financing charges per month, I come out way ahead buying the parts, investing in tools and even changing oarts that could be a problem in the future, not just reacting when it breaks down.
