  1. What ransom? Russia never stopped oil or gas supplies. It was the West's sanctions which did that or at least attempted to. The latest failed sanction being the so called "price caps". The USA and UK were worried that Germany, with an industrial base entirely dependent on cheap Russian energy, would go soft and not stoke the destruction in Ukraine by supporting the Ukrainian forces. So they blew up the Nordstream gas pipe. Russia has stated it believes it was the UK under orders from the USA. "It's all done" says Truss' text to Blinken a few minutes after the pipeline went kaboom.
