There is the tiny problem that Russia has hypersonic missiles which could take out that presumed deterrent. So you are going to have to develop them, and air defence, and make thousands of tanks... AND GO BUST..

@innsmouthresident6802 Like what? Apparently Russia believes it could take out the UK and French deterrents. They have better submarines and much faster missiles. So we would have to create a counterbalance for that. Dominic Cummins has said that if the USA withdraws support for Trident it will cost the UK 100 billion a year for years to replace it with homegrown.

@innsmouthresident6802 In fact I believe I'm pretty well up on the facts. I was right that Russia wouldn't collapse, the 2023 offensive would be a disaster, so would Kursk. The idea that the Americans are going to allow a nuclear arms race in Europe while they are negotiating arms reduction with the Russians is fanciful. And anyway they have already lost it because Russia is decades ahead of the UK and France.

"But the Cabinet Secretary will explain the secret truths of the very-not-independent nuclear deterrent that relies on MASSIVE US subsidies of money, materials and intellectual property because our regime let it all rot. Which would need HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OVER MANY YEARS to replace if Pentagon pulls the plug" Starmer and Macron need to wind their necks in, in my view. And the media should treat the Trump admin with a lot more respect.
