  1. Malcolm is labouring under the misapprehension that Russia needs or even desires a ceasefire - they don't. They can keep going for years if they need to especially if the intention is to build Ukraine back up to be a threat to them while hostilities are paused. It's clear the minimum they will accept is a real peace settlement with all 5 regions in their entirety internationally recognised as Russia, Ukraine neutral and demilitarized to about the same size as the UK army. Without that Russia will just carry on until Europe runs out of money to waste or Ukraine runs out of men.
