First statement from Dr Mike is factually incorrect. The initial Russian strategy was not to "Take over the whole of the country". Now how do I know better than Dr Mike and his book? Well the Russians didn't commit anywhere near enough troops to achieve that aim. Even taking Kiev would have taken more men than they initially committed. To take and hold Ukraine has been estimated to require 1.5 million or 8 times the initial number involved. So either Dr Mike is an idiot, or he's telling lies. Serious military analysts now conclude that the initial invasion was "diplomacy by other means" and a way to get the very inexperienced and unstable Zelelnsky to the negotiating table. This worked but the West demanded no deal, reiterated recently regarding any Chinese peace plan so the Russians realised they would have to fight and have committed sufficient troops to take and hold the annexed regions.

@keith8609 It's like the recovery plan for alcoholics. First stage is admitting one has a problem. So admit Ukraine has lost those territories for ever and accept negotiations on that basis. The war addicted people in charge are not ready even for that first stage because they are not rational.
