  1. From a tactical vulnerability standpoint, I would question the A-9's engine layout. The engines on the A-10 are masked from ahead and below by the fuselage, which reduces the lock on capability of all-aspect MANPADS. The engines of the A-9 are below the fuselage, making lock on from below more probable. And those huge intakes below the fuselage are just begging to be fed a snack of ground fire.
