  3. Same situation as the Germans. They started one by converting the liner Roma into a carrier, renamed Aquila ("Eagle") since there was a battleship already named Roma. It would have carried 51 fighter-bombers. It was almost completed by the time of the armistice in 1943, was seized by the Germans, then disabled by Italian frogmen, and scrapped after the war.
