  1. I think the France argument is flawed, because the French change came from within, the French themselves revolted against their own kings and priests and replaced them. So we keep calling them 'The French' But in the Roman case, the forces of change came from outside, by invaders. The Ottomans and various other Turkish tribes. Why would we stop calling them Turks just because they conquered another country? The Persians or Egyptians also increased their empires at some point during antiquity, but we don;t stop calling them 'Egyptians' when they ruled Syria.....
