@@retiredbore378 well, it's a fact western thought dominates the whole world, so it's easy for westerners to think that goes for every aspect of life (which it obviously doesn't) But yes, they wear our clothes, use our tech, eat our food, play our music, etc etc much more than the other way around. You see a Tokio orchestra play Beethoven, Chinese wear Levis, Egyptians play football and South Africans eat Kentucky Fried Chicken (there are 30 KFC's in Johannesburg) You don't see people in Paris or Berlin wear traditional kimonos or play the Dutar (traditional string instrument of central Asia)

can you share your thought process on how a list of kings and other royals of various iron age nations validates religious ideas in ANY way? Because to me it seems that you try to explain Harry Potter magic by pointing out that London and a few muggles really existed

@walterhartwellwhite8022 the divine message is not true, as in factual true. (whatever truth believers see in it is their business) But this shows that there's at least some history in the royal lineage of iron age bible tribes . But it's not much more than a list of kings, any christian or jew that thinks that validates the whole bible is delusional

Herod, Pilate, Augustus, maybe some head priest, that's about it. The majority of characters in the NT are common people who would not be recorded. We know a lot about common people in Roman times, but that's often from calamities like Pompeii and Herculaneum, where the people and their belonging were frozen in time.

@Yordleton but those systems just replaced gods with the worship of the Leader (Mao, Stalin, Kim etc) basically a kind of return to the God-Kings of Antiquity

@christinah128 why doesn't God heal the amputees?

This is always ridiculous, the only hope you can ever have for archeolical evidence from so long ago is for some king or pharao, and those a never the central religious characters. Its like saying that Harry Potter is a historical character because there is evidence for a British prime minister that is mentioned in the books

@SabeerAbdulla anybody can make a movie about Aladin or any other 1001 Nights character, Disney doesn't own any copyright to those, only to their own Disney versions. I can name my kebab shop Aladin, and put 100 pictures of Aladin on the wall, as long as I don't use Disney cartoon version

@Yordleton he does a pretty good job explaining things in the first 5 minutes, as a humanist freethinker atheist, I didn't hear anything misleading (so far, haven;t watched the whole video yet)

@veggiet2009 there are plenty people who just go for the 'social club' aspect

Why would me visiting a church service once a year (for example during a funeral or wedding of a religious family member or friend) make me less of an atheist? I just don;t believe any of the rituals and dogmas but I don't mind joining them once in a while, I'll even happily sing the hyms if they are good quality music.

@neclark08 fear for death or childhood indoctrination ( or both )

@adrianblake8876 That video I have seen, it's the point I made.. I have never met any christian who thought that Kings is the central bible book. I think 99% of them would consider Jesus, the Christ the central character of Christianity (the name kinda gives it away) so the gospels are the main book of the bible

@stevetournay6103 in the middle of what? religious ideas that are half true make no sense. They are meaningless (another good indication that they are all made up and the product of collective wishful thinking) This is also why there are hundreds of different religious denominations , they all think they have the found the Truth and the belief only works if theirs is the Real Truth, in other words all those other groups are Wrong. Ecumenism never really breaks through.

@KAZVorpal you are nitpicking too much. I got a nice book on evolution as a boy 30 years ago. It was full of errors, especially when looking at it today, but that didn't matter, it sparkled my interest in science. This poster is just like that, if I buy it for my niece and nephew, The GENERAL PICTURE is what matters. If any of them eventually decides to study biology, they can learn the latest corrections in nomenclature

@KAZVorpal sorry, you are completely insane. I am talking about media for kids and laypeople. 100% of that stuff is technically inaccurate, that is how the world works. And if you think no progress was made in the past century, I don't even know where to begin, so I won't. Have a nice day and happy holidays, goodbye
