@Zoutvat and because our outdoor community area is 'nicer' than most other countries, including the USA we don't mind having a bit less private space around our home, we can walk to the park that is within a few hundred meters. And we can bike to the pub or dozens of other destinations. (anyway, you still can buy larger properties in the Netherlands, it just will cost you a pretty penny)

that thing? lol my city has buildings for higher education bigger than that, and we are not exactly a nation known for its skyscrapers....

@Jvanschalkwyk1 they could join in the 1990s they chose not to , because you have to be a civilized country with rule of law to join the club, and autocrats and oligarchs decided it was more beneficial for them to plunder the CCCP legacy for their own gains.

That is often the tragic effect of being from a developing nation or a lower class in a developed nation, anything but the car is seen as inferior, because the poor can't afford cars. and when you have a car it has to be as big and expensive as possible, to show that you have made it. In the Netherlands you still see this with migrants, as soon as they have a stable income, the Audi or BMW gets bought. While the millionaire might drive a simple Peugeot because they don't need to prove anything, they have their money in AEX index and housing

@CharmingIceDS it's a common effect, worldwide.. the poor want to imitate the rich. and not being associated with the poor. Most of the 20th century, and still today in some developing nations, cars are only affordable by the rich, the poor have to walk or bike (can be a motorized bike) or use a donkey. so if you don't have a car -> you are poor. As soon as the money comes, they buy cars cars cars, even when it would be wiser to buy other things first. In general , it takes at least 1 generation of relative wealth to shake of this mindset. sometimes it can take 50 years

@Tinoweiyideruiter which storms? we might have 5 days of storm in a year on average. aka almost never. (except maybe if you live right next to the coastline)

@adrien5834 putin lovers are not receptive to logic, it's like religion, they have an idea and then they will do anything in their power to conjure up some arguments supporting that idea. Not saying that the west are 100% saints and the autocrats are 100% evil, as always the truth is not black and white, but in the middle, in some shades of grey. And the west is a lighter shade than the likes of stalin-putin or mao-xi .

@t.n.h.ptheneohumanpatterna8334 the netherlands, with 15% of the population has 66% of russia gdp.. (if your number here is correct) all because some wannabe tsars .. imagine if the ussr / russia had chosen the way of democracy and cooperation, and science and development. with their vast natural resources and educated population they could have reached USA levels of prosperity by now.. instead they are still a country of peasants in mud holes plus a handful of large cities

@draggy6544 they HAD the luxury of being inefficient, but these days reality catches up with them and it turns out they never had the means to pay for the UPKEEP of all that widely spread stuff. With the result that most of their country looks really shabby compared to the netherlands, only the richest parts like gated communities are kept up. they need $2.6 trillion in upgrades . Note with shabby I obviously mean the public space, not the natural beauty or the private owned stuff that might or might not be in super shape, depending on the particular owner.

When playing a game like city skylines , the Netherlands would be the 'Easy' map and Norway would be the 'Nightmare ' map
