@GyroCoder my grandmother sold the big house, it was worth about 1 million. Went to a nursery home, close by family, we can visit often. half of the money was reserved for her future care needs , the other half could go to the children as an inheritance . (note I am in europe with good healthcare, she doesn't have to spend all her savings on care, our universal insurance pays for it. she just pays her monthly fee. the money is for general cost of living including elderly care

we do have better healthcare and probably also much better pensions plans , but aging population is a problem in all developed countries. not just the US. And as you already correctly established, they are MULTinationals , so their tentacles are here too.

usa is a 3rd world country with a lot of resources, which makes it so that at the same time it;s also the leading 1st world country, but only for the elite

@DrakeDealer no facts, the EU healthcare is much better than the USA ,per $ spent. (you can have great healthcare in the USA but it costs a lot more, a privilege for the rich ) Where I am, poor people also get good healthcare.

@eparris2908 no country is shipping their elderly to asia, but in any country you have people who were more successful or less, in generating a comfortable retirement. If you are among the latter, it can be a good option to migrate to a country where things are cheaper. Having a social welfare state doesn't mean you provide every citizen with luxury galore, just that you provide the minimum needed for a decent living. But you still have an individual responsibility to improve that minimum. EU countries are still capitalist economies, not soviets. And yes, you still have homeless people in Germany because some people have so many issues that they fall through the social safety net. but anybody who wants to get help, gets help
