when I was a little boy, I always checked the meters of any new car in our street, to see 'how fast it could go' (we didn;t know that those numbers were not the truth) It was the early 80s, so most cars were from the 70s and had 140 or 160 as max. 180 was really fast and if we spotted a 200 we talked about it for days. (there weren't any Porches in my street) I spotted a 220 once a year maybe a Mercedes with 240 once, but never 260. I don;t think I believed that would be possible

it's higher than some countries and lower than others. German drivers are skilled compared to some < cough cough> southern countries but there do have more accidents than some countries with speed limits and better infrastructure

YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT when not overtaking, ALSO IF NO CAR IS BEHIND YOU. Don't give foreigners a bad name by not knowing how to behave on the AUTOBAHN. VIELEN DANK

@alexandermenck6609 speak for yourself, I am from the Netherlands and I was a huge car buff when I was 10 (like many boys that age, but I was more fanatic than most) I certainly saw a few of these in the wild and I would recognize them by the smallest details

yeah, but to be fair they also costed twice as much or more compared to those USA cars

@stefhendricks change your name to NLTaxVictim....

@joe6096 Cadillacs were marketed at rich seniors.. those people were not interested in driving faster than 80mph

@larrytipton2868 you might be able to make a good car, but you didn't so Americans who wanted a good car bought Mercedes and BMW and later on Lexus and Honda

@mart_en yes, 70% is without limit, but most people live near the big cities and around those cities there is more often a speed limit. So also correct to say that more than 50% of km driven by car in germany are on parts with speed limit, because most trips are made there

@mart_en You have to use your brain obviously... You go right when you are NOT overtaking the next car within seconds. You either underestimate how fast other cars are going in Germany or maybe you have never been there and don't know the rules. Important to remember, people don;t cruise at 220km/h when it's very busy with lots of cars and trucks going 100. That's not practical, often not even POSSIBLE because you would have to slow down all the time when somebody slower tries to overtake the trucks. ... so when it is busy, and you have to overtake all the time, you won;t go 200. Maybe 140 if you are lucky. then you have the common situation that a train of slower traffic is staying at the right lane and a train of faster is staying on the left lane. the fast lane is constantly overtaking so they don;t have to go right. So these situations where you CAN drive very fast, it;s more often that you only see a few other vehicles in sight. But why am I talking, just watch these videos and you will see it in practice.. people going >200km are STILL going to the right lane when they don't have another car to overtake

@mart_en See the passage at around 4:00 Faster car overtakes youtuber and they both overtake an Audi, they drive 200 or faster. Notice how BOTH faster cars immediately go to the right after they overtake the Audi. That's how you drive in Germany. (See also my other reply if you read this one first)

@mrHighLifex I hope you meant 4-6kmh instead of 40-60 otherwise it would get VERY dangerous
