@norwegianblue2017 we are not saying you should adopt our lifestyle with your current shitty infrastructure... Obviously the idea is that you IMPROVE it first and make bikes a genuine option. But that will be very difficult too do, chicken and egg situation.... You are stuck.

@jessicaely2521 a burglar has a MUCH higher chance being busted in a busy area. Othe rpeople will see hear things and cal the police. In suburbia, he can just be totally out of sight from everybody and break in on his leisure, if he knows the house is empty. It's also saying a lot that the first argument you bring up are burglars, who are not seen as a big problem here in Europe.

@TickleMeElmo55 yeah, if you are coming from a conflict area or a really corrupt 'banana republic' then everything is better , and just having a safe place, work and a car feels like paradise. It's a trend because more and more people realize that suburbia is not sustainable in the long run.

@Loonypapa with enough money you can obviously pimp up your rabbit cage. To make living there more pleasant. But you are still a slave of GM and Toyota for every aspect of your life that plays out outside your home. Here in Europe people can also have a swimming pool and a veggie garden, And all the benefits from mixed zoning on top of that.

@Pidalin cables in the air vs in the ground is a function of the soil I think, it's easy for northern / central europe with great plains to put everything in the ground, but not easy for rocky countries.

@rubenfranzen8912 the only places in the Netherlands without at least a cafe and a supermarket and a Kruitvat are the tiniest hamlets 100 people. In 99% of Dutch homes you can easily walk to a supermarket

I go buy groceries at last 5 times a week. I can do it within 10 minutes so it doesn't feel like a chore. (only once a week I take 20-30 minutes and buy more things, this you can compare to the weekly american trip, the other times I only buy fresh stuff for that day)

18 is a good age because it is a medical fact that drinking as a teenager is very unhealthy for your brain development. Teens that binge drink can become dumber the rest of their lives. my country raised the age from 16 to 18 for this reason.

@TechDeals I wasn't saying you could easily solve the problems of areas like Texas (see my previous comment where I already doubted it could ever be fixed) But you could start locally, even in Dallas FW, assign certain areas as higher density, make local infrastructure european style and let the people who want to live like that move in. mass transit doesn't mean you have to get rid of your cars, we love our cars here too (German's especially) it's not OR, it;s AND. We just have more free choice to pick the transport that works best. My kids can bike to their friends and school , without the need for parents to taxi them around all the time. etc etc. You also don;t need to give up single family houses, just not make that the only choice.

@wsollers1 are you ignorant or a troll? the non blues try to reverse anything they can and they keep grifting the common people and squeezing every cent out of them, for tax cuts for the rich (themselves and those who keep them in power) , by brainwashing simple folk who can't think in their own interest) you need blue government for 20 more years to get anything going that looks like something reasonable , PLUS checking those dems, who aint saints themselves and call them out when they screw up. and maybe when the boomer generation finally dies off you can become a somewhat liveable country for people who are not at least millionaires.

@adriannedelcu7500 their salaries are also quite high, so if you do well in the rat race you can actually pay a lot. but that is the privilege for those lucky enough to have wealthy family ( to get them going) enough brains and good health. anybody else can perish

@sebastiann4402 the Ruhr might be an butt ugly industrial conglomerate, it has 5 million people, that;s 10 times as much as Kansas City. 24 million tourists visit those cities every year. It has a major river, it has numerous sport arenas, world class concerts, art galleries, high cuisine restaurants etc. to think that a midsize US city can compete with that is ridiculous. (except for natural beauty) Köln alone would probably beat Kansas City sure it's by far not as famous as London, Paris, Berlin or Barcelona but that is the nice thing about european cities, even the ugly duckies among them have a lot to offer. Anyway we were talking about Aachen, I only mentioned Ruhr cities because they are at a distance that Americans still call close by... (aachen - koln is 50 minutes, that's about the same as from one end of Kansas city to the opposite side)

people should just be content with less. you can still have a nice old age without being a millionaire. Be less greedy and more smart with what you have and you will be fine.

@bartrammeloo5046 because if you ALSO go to the local charcuterie for meat, the vegetable seller (sorry don't know that one in french) for greens, the fromagerie for cheese, and the liquor store for wine etc etc it can add up a lot in time spend. Even if they are all close by . That's why people started to go to supermarkets in the first place, the ease of use. but i love the 'speciaalzaken' for the extra quality they sometimes can provide

@fornow5325 What kind of silly comparison is that? Using a computer and wifi is low impact, doesn't require much energy and IS essential for a modern life. On top of that, you can easily use green energy for such electronic devices from solar panels that are rather cheap these days and widely used in the developed world. While a trip to antarctica is completely USELESS (unless you are an scientist, doing research ) and uses a lot of unnecessary resources, including a lot of fossil fuel, because you get there by plane and then boat.

@fornow5325 in most countries in Europe, you have to show that you can support yourself financially, either by having a job (you need to get the job contract before the move) or by having a steady pension income or equivalent (if you are the retirement age)

@TheSwissChalet We have NATO, to defend ourselves, there is no military in the world that can threaten us, except the USA, and as you said, we are allies with the US. Russia can't even conquer 1 country and can't attack us. China also doesn't attack Europe for many obvious reasons. NATO without US troops , is already enough. With US troops (btw ty for being such a reliable military force) it's many times overkill.
