@sadie2605 no, it's actually the ice cracking. that's part of how it works, it;s not unsafe, I mean the cracking itself is not unsafe (skating on thin ice can be risky as the video explains) . The energy of the skater's weight is transferred to the ice and causes these cracks to form, which can be hundreds of feet long, and they 'move' with the skater. But because the ice can;t go left or right or down (more ice and water support it at those 3 sides) , it doesn't break and the skater keeps being supported by the ice.
