Absolutely spot on. I still can't get over how 90% of people think the place is great. The taxes keep going up and the cost of compliance increases with every new mandatory reporting (employment gender equality, anti-modern-day slavery for you and your entire supply chain, AML/KYC, carbon footprint, etc.) requirement and then stupid courses for every little thing with annual "updates/refreshers" for things that should be a one-off course given you do them on a regular basis.

The map is wrong. Australia has lost a lot of rich people and approximately 1.8 million people in total have fled since the government tyranny that started in 2020. The majority of businesses are gone, investments are vanishing fast, money is being moved from Australian banks to overseas rapidly. There are NEVER any tax incentives in Australia or New Zealand. Both countries are just tax happy places that'll take every last cent they can pry from you - taxes are about to increase to cover a govt run pre-kinder year of education for 4 year olds (instead of sending them to four year old kinder) and govt run childcare (sorry but parents should have to pay - it was their choice to have kids, why should everyone have to pay for the choices of others). Total cost for the taxpayers - $9 billion by 2023 - where is the money? To be collected via taxes very soon.

@mkuc6951 It absolutely was. Its always saddened me to watch the decline since then as everything started going to shit. Like you I've heard a lot from the old timers and its unfortunately strengthened my desire to leave which is why I'm getting out as soon as possible (currently legally stuck till the end of the year with JD) - was originally set to leave in March 2020 but we know why that didn't happen.

@nh5317 just go through the ABF and AEC data for the last few years and you'll see the discrepancy. It's about 6.5% as the national population is about 28 million

@Nick Morris Not 100% sure yet but my list has a few places. Several parts of the EU outside of Europe, there are some tax haven's that are part of France so having been born with both Australian and an EU citizenship that's an easy choice. The next choices are countries (not just CBI ones) in the Caribbean. I'm a mechanical engineer who prior to getting qualified as such, has a solid history in datacentres, enterprise network administration, programming and structured cabling (data cabling). I have a long history in restoration, archival and preservation as well as collections management, having been responsible for numerous large collections. I also have a long history as a survival instructor specialising in the extreme scenarios, to relevant organisations and entities, not the general public. I've already confirmed with several governments in the Caribbean that there is a pathway open to me for a visa as a "highly specialised worker of national interest". Unfortunately the last two years have caused a lot of plans have to be re-made (currently doing so) both due to finances and also due to what opportunities remain as local businesses change and governments refocus what they want.
