  2.  @techcowgirl  The problem was never physically leaving - as you said there are always ways out. The problem is, if you don't leave through the "official" channels you won't be permitted to legally enter anywhere else and if caught will be arrested and returned to face life in jail. Its this fact of global collusion between tyrannical govts that made people be stuck in place. This meant that the "underground railroads" made it possible to get people to safety (i.e. into remote areas) but not much further as they could never have a "normal" life ever again - it'd be hiding forever or getting caught. Only one person successfully escaped (and likely had friends in the right places who "scanned his passport on the official system" se he'd be legally in the country, that was Max Igan. Many others, even those who tried to leave AU legally (used the AU - NZ bubble but then tried to leave from NZ) were all arrested at their destinations and forcibly sent back to AU because the AU regime didn't want anyone leaving.
