Because they're starting. If they go slowly the 99% won't notice. If they do it all at once they will notice and will complain. Current measures include: * Closing roads * Narrowing roads * Adding bike lanes and eliminating parking * Eliminating parking * Making the CBD 30km/h - nothing to do with safety, it was fine at its old 60km/h (people actually looked before stepping out), now they're all glued to their phones because 'speed limit is low at 30km/h' * Pricing people out of parking and carparks (govt controlled taxes) * Ever reducing speed limits - most 50km/h zones are now 40km/h and will be made into 30km/h in 2025. Highways are now 100km/h and freeways are now 80-90km/h. ALL ramps that were made for moving traffic at 100km/h are now 80km/h * Every new dogbox (unit) that gets built means less parking and the streets get narrower as the nature strip magically widens * Every development that's built (that are giant or new suburbs) is built as a 15-minute city * Most places that used to have multiple ways in and out now only have one way in and one way out (easier to control / lockdown) * ALL new developments have only one or two points of access where in the past there'd be many (easier to control / lockdown) * The highways and freeways have the dangerous and banned in the rest of the world cable barriers that commonly block-off the shoulder so that people are stuck on the highway/freeway with no way of turning around like they used to have * ALL traffic lights have been intentionally put out of sync so that traffic congests - a common way to try to annoy people into giving up driving * ALL speed limits are being reduced on major roads so the govt can revenue raise as its easy to do the old limit and get booked - it has nothing to do with safety * Many roads in suburbs are now only open from one end for vehicle access - this is dangerous, discourages vehicles and intentionally annoys everyone whilst creating a traffic maze * Speed-humps being installed everywhere just to "slow everyone down" - 'traffic calming' is a way to get people to quit driving The longer it takes people to do the things they used to, the more rage people form - that creates road rage which justifies tyrannical laws and 'being tough on crime', it encourages people to speed (easy $$$ for the govt) as they don't have time to waste on stupidly low speed limits that used to be higher and everything was safe. It also gets some people to quit going out because its become too hard to get anything done so they don't drive and don't see anyone. Even I've noticed that the time to do the things I always do has doubled due to all the above mentioned points. The result is I do 50% the work (can't move around fast enough anymore) but charge triple the money for my trouble. Its like the old 'boiled frog' thingy. If the frog is thrown in boiling water it screams and dies (but it noticed the water was boiling). If the frog is put in the water and the water is slowly warmed, it won't notice until just before it dies. Or as the Chinese say 'death by a thousand cuts' - one cut doesn't do much but many collectively do.
