  3. In my business I sample "natural" populations (forest trees, wildland fuels, etc.) to get useful estimates for modeling and design of appropriate management. We do similar adjustments in our sample data based on A Priori statistical knowledge of the population, experience in particular forest types, and other factors - things the average person thinks introduces bias. This never happens, and it provides an efficient and reliable means to characterize current conditions and help predict future ones. Paranoia on the right has repeatedly attacked eficient sample-based census designs because they ASSUME corruption when in fact they are PROJECTING, or simply displaying their own general ignorance in these matters. No polster, appraiser or expert benefits from delivering unreliable estimates. Trump simply labels unfavorable polls corrupt, and favorable ones honest. That is more of a psychological issue than a statistical one. Math never lies, people do.
