  3. I had a realization about a year ago, here in Chicago. I started riding the first car of the train to be close to the train operator. But I quickly noticed that it was often filled with thugs that would size me up when I got on. It hit me that the operator wasn't going to intervene if I was attacked and the most vulnerable people were still sitting in the first car.
