  38.  @Robert-bb9wi  I stand corrected. I thought you were younger. You actually have just under a decade on me. Huge difference those 10 years made then (although not as dramatic as the changes are currently coming today). But those 10 years between us made a huge difference. the “White Only” signs were gone by the time I reached cognition. I heard that it used to be that way and I thought, as a child, how stupid that was. My point is that the civil rights act in the late 60s made those practices illegal and actionable. Therefore, by the time I became aware, they were mistakes of the past. I did not live or experience that and NEVER thought like that. That was 50 YEARS ago (as hard as that is to believe). What gets me are those born around the millennium that never experienced that kind of racism themselves and in fact have been on the receiving end of trillions of dollars in social programs specifically created to remedy those wrongs and even the playing field, but feel entitled to be paid for what others suffered and what they think they are owed. Many black Americans have succeeded as well as any one else in this country in the last few decades and are well represented across the board, including the top 10%ers. You talk of what MIGHT have been had this happened or that not happened. But you know as well as I do that life is not fair; never has been, never will be. The idea that compensation is owed for what might have been would make recipients of us all. I understand how the injustices stick in your craw. I have a few of my own I’ve had to wrestle with. But at our age, we’ve seen enough to know that nothing changes unless we change ourselves. I fear this vitriol, this division, and this resurrection of racism coming from the black progressives is doing more harm to them than good. Do you see what is happening ALL AROUND US? Global migration, kids graduating from high school can’t read and write, climate change, AI is coming, all 3 branches of our government are crumbling before our eyes, the American way of life with all its freedoms is itself on the line, and people are stressing about reparations. Don’t you see, we are on the brink of going down as AMERICANS, all of us, unless we start thinking collectively as Americans, not trying to resurrect separate but equal.
