@dylan15canales84 While you are technically correct (if something is a fact it is not racist), the racist thing was that he felt this unstoppable urge to tell everyone the race of the gangs.. when it was absolutely unnecessary for the point he was making (the point: they have gang violence there in Canada and someone like Bukele would be loved). I am not denying the facts, only his motivation for stating them.

@randomnobody660 You: "It could very well be the case that that's just the easiest identifier the problematic gangs share." -- I don't dispute the factuality of that claim (because I don't know) but he didn't need to identify the gangs as black and indigenous - he could have just written that "gang violence is a problem in Canada and we would love someone like Bukele" - without any identifier what type of gangs (why? why add this exatra information that doesn't serve the point of saying Canada would love someone like Bukele ... if you have this urge to add information that is not necessary and that information happens to be about some race other than yours doing something bad, then even if it's factual, why are you adding this extra information? people then suspect you have a problem with this specific race = racist). I hope I didn't mess it up and it's understandable what I wanted to say. I HATE "Woke" people harassing everyone just because he or she was born white/caucasian, and other similar nonsense that just angers people. It's stupid. But also on the other hand there are some REAL and DANGEROUS racists among us (and I don't mean just regular people who say things from time to time, I mean people who take it as their life mission to get rid of some other race - very dangerous). These people actually do exist. (I am in no way saying this Canadian guy is one of them, probably not)

@randomnobody660 "Race is inherently a sensitive topic in our cultural climate" -- I am not even against discussing how ethnicity and crime rates are correlated in his city (if it's 100% factual and also mentions how it's corelated to poverty, and I why are they poor - complex dicussion, not just "black bad"). But that was not topic of this video or any dicussion here - that's why it's weird to bring it up. Regarding what you wrote about gangs - I cannot contribute, we have no such thing in my country (EU), it's very peaceful and safe here and the only organized crime we have here are our politicians.

@randomnobody660 You: "In a way the gent didn't even need to specify gangs; "violence is also a problem where I live, so we could use a Bukele" also works." -- I mean, technically you are right... but if he adds Canada or gangs, I do not make conclusions about his character... if he adds race of those gangs when the topic of his message is not which race causes the most criminality in his area but Bukele's methods... then me and the guy who responded have a feeling he is trying to push racism (whether his statement is true or not, I don't dispute that, just his motivation is suspicious to me and others). I think we already blew it out of propotions (typical Internet debate :D sorry)

And maybe I am oversensitive, I am from a completely white country in Central Europe with no imigrants... and my wife is from Africa (I lived there for a time). Real racists make it extremely dangerous for my children. We have never done anything wrong to anyone, but racists don't care, they just see dark and go into violence mode (we had 3 killings here in the past decade - complete strangers, no talking, just straight murder in the middle of the street and on the bus, it got into media, was condemned by politicians, but that doesn't bring the victims back to life). Also most of the racists here have never seen a black person in their entire life (until they visit the capital city and even then it's extremely rare). Their racism cannot possibly come from personal experience but is propelled by media (both mainstream and "alternative" facist websites/social media). We are already planning to leave, I don't want to live in fear for my family. So I may be oversensitive to this topic.

@realSirDextrose I don't necessarily disagree, but you have two types of criminals (I've lived in many countries on 3 continents) first are criminals due to lack of character, second are criminals out of necessity (extreme poverty and no other options to make money to feed your starving children - you can think whatever you want, but none of us has ever been even anywhere near their level of desperation and parents do anything for their children, that's biology). You have to imprison all the criminals of first type (lack of morals/character), but you can eliminate the second type of criminal by eliminating poverty (very difficult). I know it is sexy to use "hammer" on all criminals and just shoot everyone or put them in jail... but there are differences in their motivation and it can make entire society healthier. It is better to prevent people from becoming criminals in the first place (and fear of prison works only to some degree, otherwise crime would no longer exist in countries with strong police - yet it does exist, so obviously it doesn't work on everyone).

@realSirDextrose Bukele also started with programs to improve quality of living and centers that would take care of young people so gangs are not their only option. This programs do work (to some degree) and he implemented them. It wasn't just "arrest everyone everywhere, F the criminals". That being said, of course there is significant portion of criminals who are completely unreformable and have to spend rest of their lives in prison. No argument there.
