  1. What? It's not even remotely feasible to collect your own data in lots of fields. Not only do you use the data of your adviser, you might use data someone collected a hundred years ago.

  2.  @Freaky0Nina  You're 100% wrong if you think that's how research works. Do you actually think all of the data of the JWST gets simply thrown into the trash after someone wrote the first paper about it?! No, in "academia" hundreds if not thousands of people work with the exact same data.
