I program exclusively by punching holes in plastic cards with my hole punch device.

If you are not "dependent" on a technology, it's useless. You are dependent on your clothes, house, the expertise of thousands of other people and the machines and tools they use as well as the infrastructure. And that's a good thing. If you are never willing to trust anything whatsoever, if you are never willing to be dependent on others, you will never get anywhere. One should think that a computer engineer would understand that, but education is not the same as wisdom. As for your lament that software isn't sufficiently fascist, I can only say that the world you desire would be boring beyond comprehension.

What a bunch of utter rubbish. People have always told each other how to do things better. That's precisely what's our advantage over other animals. If you want, you can live like an animal and never listen to what anyone is telling you and "find food" by digging in the ground.

Vim users are tryhards. I program exclusively in microsoft word. I print out the program and send it to the customer via mail.

Luis Utz Goettig No, and I was talking about dependence. If you don't depend on something, it's not very useful. I depend very much on my glasses, which is a sign of their immense utility.

@lucywucyyy Yeah, name an atrocity not committed by sex havers.

@frankblack8448 You are trying really hard to be condescending, but you are just an instance of the doomer meme, assuming the worst whenever possible. What you lack is gratitude for all of the great freedoms, comforts and opportunities modernity provides to you. Working a comfortable job and being able to borrow money are priviledges in themselves.
5
@frankblack8448 Must suck to see everything through the lens of depression.
4
@frankblack8448 Quit trivializing slavery. Being given the opportunity to earn money for yourself is not slavery. It's endlessly frustrating to see all of the things, people have worked and fought for, being shit on by a bunch of spoiled, thankless brats.
4
@frankblack8448 You are the one seeing life through a lens of depression. Accusing me of the same makes no sense. Perhaps if you left your room more, you'd develop some gratitude for what we have.
3
@frankblack8448 Better to spread coronavirus than to spread anarcho primitivism. You are so busy insulting people online that you are completely uncoupled from how most people live.
3
@1d10tcannotmakeusername The world has never been better. I was not aware that people unironically self-indentify as doomers.

@mpr746 Contrary to the delusions of tech snobs usability is a thing.
2
Usability is not a thing. I want to spend an afternoon googling commands for every tool I use.

@fredhair Just because you can't use it doesn't make it bad. When I hit myself with a hammer is that the hammer's fault?
1
Technological and social progress go hand in hand, so it should not surprise us that their rejection does, too.
1
No, it's a civilization quirk.
1
@osirisgolad Even animals have cultures. And many, many animals teach things to their young. You are (or want to be) dumber than a cat.
1
Glasses are bad, because I'm using them all of the time?
1
That's because it is for projects. If you still want to use it for short self contained programs, you can make one "miscellaneous" project.
1
@1d10tcannotmakeusername Don't project your depression on others.
1
@1d10tcannotmakeusername When were your golden ages? Fifty years ago? Five hundred years ago? Five thousand years ago? People in the past would give anything just to live today.
1
@1d10tcannotmakeusername You are a fan of slavery and disease and not so much of education, equality and leisure. If you actually lived in the 18th century and were given the chance to live now, you'd give anything for it. The suggestion that history runs in "cycles" betrays total ignorance. That's no more sophisticated than to suggest that the earth is flat.
1
@1d10tcannotmakeusername No, there wasn't. Especially if you were not rich. Perhaps you should get superficially informed about history before passing a judgement. And your phone doesn't do shit if you don't want it to.
1
Lol, don't act dumb.
1
If everyone did, you wouldn't get a kick out of it anymore and the Norwegian countryside would be pretty crowded.

IDE Chad never used a terminal in his life.

We live in a society. : ( If I could just dig in the ground with my snout all day, I would be so creative!
